Our Fall Mountain Bike Adventure at Lake Tahoe – The Flume Trail
October 17, 2011
I don’t think there could be a better way to spend a Fall day at Lake Tahoe. We packed up early and headed over to Lake Tahoe’s east shore to ride the Flume Trail. Talk about beautiful. The leaves were spectacular in various stages of changing colors. The air was crisp and the lighting was spectacular. Even though the first climb out of the parking lot at Spooner is tough, it was well worth every bit of work!
The Flume Trail is Lake Tahoe’s premiere mountain bike ride with outstanding views of Tahoe and the surrounding Sierra Nevada mountains.
We started this great ride at the Spooner Lake day use area in the Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park on the east side of Lake Tahoe.
From the parking lot, he trail runs past the old sheperd’s hut, then gives way to rolling uphill terrain through beautiful aspen groves that thrive in the Carson Range on the east side of Lake Tahoe.
After a very long climb, the trail skirts the far side of spectacular Marlette Lake and then opens onto The Flume Trail.
The Flume Trail is nearly flat, dropping only 40′ per mile and is spectacular in its setting. 1600′ above the east shore of Lake Tahoe and only a half mile away from the shoreline in places, it is truly one of the the premier trails in the world.
We had a beautiful and social ride running into three consecutive groups of friends that were also out to enjoy the day and a very sweet ride! The leaves will be nice for a little bit longer. Get out there and enjoy it.
Amgen Tour of CA Comes to Tahoe
April 24, 2011
Lake Tahoe will host a 10-day celebration counting down to the largest cycling event in North America, the 2011 Amgen Tour of California, with concerts, family activities and bike-related events, in preparation for the Stage 1 Start and Finish of the race (May 15) and the Stage 2 Start (May 16). Lake Tahoe Basin residents and cycling enthusiasts are making Tahoe’s 10-Day Countdown to the tour special with Cinco de Mayo parties, the Opening Gala and Team Introduction, Lake Tahoe Legends Ride, Spirit Bike Parade, wine dinners, showroom entertainment, live music and more. This is possibly one of the biggest events in north Tahoe since the 1960 Olympics. This event should bring a lot of visitors to the area over a traditionally slow period, and since it will be televised it will give the area exposure both internationally and nationally. The tour’s Local Organizing Committee invites visitors and residents to grab their bike helmets and hold on as the countdown to the tour begins.
